Hooray, energypedia consult turns 5 years old! What started in spring 2012 with four enthusiastic people struggling with bad internet connection, has grown over the past years to a successful enterprise with seven people working in four different locations. During this time our initial focus on IT for M&E and knowledge management and on energy access research broadened to comprehensive M&E advisory services and, more recently, to online trainings and webinars. We are looking forward to the next years to come!

Can Software be Sustainable?
We at energypedia consult consider ourselves a responsible company, treating clients, partners and team members with respect, honesty and fairness. Being a subsidiary of energypedia non-profit we also are conscious of our corporate responsibility. Thus, we try to minimize our consumption of resources as far as possible. This means running our wikis on CO2 neutral servers as well as buying only eco-friendly or second hand office materials. Also with regard to our suppliers sustainability is of importance. Within Germany we travel by train only and for international flights we compensate...
Excel In-House Training
Energypedia consult has been assigned by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Geneva to conduct a one-day Excel training for monitoring in May.
Excel is a widely accessible software program offering much potential for monitoring and evaluation (M&E) data management and reporting needs. However, its potential is often underutilized. This workshop will help participants understand and better utilize the potential of Excel for M&E needs at the project, program and organizational levels. Only basic knowledge of Excel (see checklist)...
Tired of Mindless Work Instead of Saving the World?
In little sectors the clash between work reality and expectations of staff is as wide as in the development cooperation or aid sector. The idea that a job in this area will provide a sense of existential meaning and fulfillment is widespread. However, daily routine often looks quite different: Instead of working with beneficiaries or partner organizations towards a better world and future many end up with lots of administrative work, institutional coordination and endless approval cycles. Hundreds of emails that need to be read, deleted or answered, combined with general work overload...

I guess, while you’re reading this headline, your first association is Wikipedia and this incredible achievement of putting the entire knowledge of our mankind on one platform. Totally voluntary, open and free for use. Just great and inspiring! Wikipedia proofs that people can achieve amazing things if they work together.
For working together and for sharing knowledge on such a platform you need a wiki. Wiki Wiki (quick quick) is the name of the free shuttle bus on the Honolulu International Airport in Hawaii. Ward Cunningham, the developer of the first wiki software was...
How to Insert Tables into Your Wiki Page
You want to add a table to your wiki page but don’t know how to do it?
There are two different options: Either you create a new table directly in the wiki page. Or you import an already existing table from Excel. In this blog I explain you both options.
1. Create a new table
To create a new table, first click on the edit button on the top right corner of your page. When the edit toolbar appears, click on the “table” icon.

Reports with a Click of a Button: MS Word Export Feature
Probably every M&E officer has been in this situation: The deadline for the annual report is approaching, but the data is just not ready. It takes time, effort and nerves to go through all the different monitoring documents that have piled up throughout the year and to copy-paste the relevant information into the format that meets the donor’s requirements.
Even when you work in a neatly organized monitoring system and the data actually is complete and up-to-date, your internal monitoring system and the donor’s reporting format might be two very different stories. This is why...

Organize Your Events With a Colorful Calendar!
Getting an overview of what’s going on in your team is not always easy. How many times have you written down an important appointment in that old notepad of yours or on that post-it note that’s nowhere to be found anymore? We don’t always add all business appointments or events in our digital calendars immediately, and sometimes it’s easy to lose track of things. For this purpose, a very useful feature that we have incorporated to our wiki tools, is the Events Calendar, which helps you get a good perspective of what’s going on in your team. Our calendar displays different events, in...
